Summary of the New USEPA 415.3 Method for Total Organic Carbon (TOC) Analysis
Industry: Environmental
Instrument: Apollo 9000 Total Organic Carbon (TOC) Analyzer, Phoenix 8000 Total Organic Carbon (TOC) Analyzer
With the USEPA’s introduction of the Disinfectants/ Disinfection Byproducts (D/DBP) rule, Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analysis, as a precursor to D/DBPs, has increased in its importance for measuring the quality of source and drinking waters. By reducing the Total Organic Carbon (TOC) in water before disinfection, the formation of D/DBPs can be reduced. As Total Organic Carbon (TOC) is increasingly used, the need of analytical guidelines for accurate Total Organic Carbon (TOC) measurements of source and treated water has been amplified. USEPA Method 415.3 was created as a guideline for analysis of Total Organic Carbon (TOC), Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) and UV Absorption at 254nm (UVA) in source waters and drinking waters.
